Nature, freedom, and enchantment
in the heart of Salento
The most beautiful beaches
Two coasts at your disposal, to choose based on the wind
In Salento, you don’t choose the sea on a map, but by watching how the olive branches move.
The rule is simple and it’s the one we locals have always followed: with the Tramontana—north wind—you go to the Ionian to find calm, flat seas; with the Scirocco—south wind—you move to the Adriatic, where the inlets become natural pools.
Ours is a privileged position because we are located exactly in the center between the two sides: in just a few minutes you can decide whether to head towards the Adriatic cliffs or the sandy stretches of the Ionian.
Find your way like a true local!
Fresh, dry air and clear skies?
It’s Tramontana: choppy Adriatic, better to head to the Ionian.
Warm, humid air and hazy skies?
It’s Scirocco: rough Ionian, better to head to the Adriatic.
Winds like the Mistral and Levant can also change conditions, so the golden rule always applies: watch the sea (or ask us!!).
When the Scirocco blows
The Cliffs
Marina di Castro, 7 km
The closest beach to us is Marina di Castro, a rocky coastline that dives into magnificent cobalt blue waters, among ancient caves and seabeds waiting to be explored. You won’t find sand, but living, welcoming rock that embraces a crystal-clear sea.
Cala dell’Acquaviva
Marittima, 9 km
Just ten minutes from Spongano, this is one of the most loved inlets for its unique character: the presence of underground freshwater springs that make the sea incredibly cool and refreshing. It is a narrow, deep rocky bay, with colors ranging from emerald green to deep blue, easily accessible via a small pebble beach.
The Green Cave
Marina di Andrano, 9 km
This marina offers a low rocky coast that is very convenient for accessing the sea. The main attraction is the Grotta Verde (Green Cave), a sea cave where sunlight creates spectacular fluorescent reflections. It’s a magical spot for those who love swimming and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters just a few meters from the shore.
The Natural Pool
Marina Serra, 15 km
This is one of the most evocative inlets in the world, where the rock has been shaped by the sea to create a true protected natural pool. The water is always calm, clear, and safe, making it an iconic spot of the lower Adriatic, perfect for a relaxing swim surrounded by a unique natural architectural setting.
Aeneas' Mythological Fjord
Porto Badisco, 20 km
According to legend, this is where Aeneas landed on his journey to Italy. It is a stretch of sea that winds between high cliffs, creating a sheltered fjord where the water is always still when the Scirocco blows. The seabed is incredibly rich, ideal for those who love exploring the underwater world among caves and rock walls.
Baia dei Turchi
Otranto, 30 km
This is one of the rare and precious stretches of white sand on the Adriatic side. It is reached on foot through a thick pine forest that smells of resin, suddenly emerging onto a beach protected by tuff cliffs. It is a nature reserve where the absence of buildings and the crystalline sea provide a sense of absolute peace and beauty.
When the Tramontana blows
Sand and Pine Forest
Torre San Giovanni, 25 km
This is one of the closest Ionian destinations to Spongano. Here you will find a very long stretch of white sand bordered by a lush pine forest that almost touches the water. It is the perfect place for those seeking wide spaces and comfort, with shallow waters that turn the sea into an inviting blue table during days with north winds.
Fine sand and a tower in the water
Lido Marini and Torre Pali, 30 km
These two neighboring marinas offer a continuous coastline of golden sand and shallow waters. Lido Marini welcomes you with its vast beach, perfect for long walks in the crystal-clear sea, while Torre Pali, reachable by continuing a little further, is famous for its 16th-century tower that rises isolated directly from the water just a few meters from the shore, offering a unique setting for a swim between history and nature.
The Maldives of Salento
Pescoluse, 30 km
This is the most famous beach in the area, celebrated for its very light sand and water that remains shallow for dozens of meters, creating stunning turquoise reflections worthy of an exotic destination. In about half an hour by car, you find yourself on a vast coastline where high-level equipped beach clubs alternate with wide stretches of free beach. A true daydream.
The wild pearl of the park
Punta della Suina, 40 km
Set within a protected natural park, this location offers a breathtaking landscape where Mediterranean scrub dominates the scene. You walk among pines and myrtles to emerge onto small sandy coves and low rocks. The sea has incredible colors and the sunset from this point on the coast is an experience that stays in your heart.
The Monumental Dunes
Punta Prosciutto, 75 km
Even though it’s about an hour’s drive away, the beauty of this beach justifies the trip. Its towering, wild dunes frame a coastline of light sand and an open, always clear sea. Here the atmosphere is more natural than in other areas of the Ionian: the free beach spaces are vast and the white of the sand meets the green of the Mediterranean scrub.
Golden sand and crystal-clear sea on the Ionian coast
Gallipoli, 40 km
Among the most loved destinations in Salento, Gallipoli is famous for its long stretches of light sand and clear sea with shallow waters. Locations like Baia Verde offer wide stretches of golden beach, ideal for those seeking comfort and relaxation, while areas like Punta della Suina offer more natural views, between pine forest and crystal-clear water.
About 40 minutes from Spongano, it is a perfect destination for a day of relaxation, nature, and typical landscapes of the Salento Ionian coast.
